Hiring a nanny involves more than finding someone available. Here are the questions families and caregivers most often ask before getting started.
What areas do you serve?
Nurture & Knowledge is California-based and works with families across California and nationwide. Availability and search strategy vary by market and role.
What ages do you specialize in?
Our core focus is the early years, ages 0–6, with particular attention to infant, toddler, and preschool development.
How are nanny candidates vetted?
Candidates move through interviews and reference checks before presentation. Final placement screening can include criminal background screening, Social Security trace, DMV record when driving is relevant, CPR/First Aid verification, and California TrustLine guidance where applicable.
Do you require a paid trial?
We strongly recommend paid trials. A trial gives both the family and nanny a chance to experience the real household dynamic, communication style, and child-caregiver connection before making a long-term commitment.
Do families pay nannies directly?
Yes. Nannies are employed and compensated by the family, separate from the agency’s placement fee. For ongoing household employment, we encourage families to use compliant payroll and a written work agreement.
What is TrustLine?
TrustLine is California’s registry for in-home childcare providers who have cleared qualifying background checks. We guide California placements through the process when applicable.
Can you help if we don’t know exactly what schedule or role we need?
Yes. The initial consultation is designed to clarify the position. We can talk through schedule, responsibilities, compensation, household expectations, and what will make the role sustainable and appealing to strong candidates.
Do you work with nannies who don’t have a degree in early childhood?
Yes. Education can be valuable, but meaningful hands-on experience, judgment, communication, responsiveness, and professionalism matter too. We look at the whole caregiver.
